LAKE COUNTY, Ill.– A Waukegan police officer was charged with multiple felony counts after allegedly misusing law enforcement databases, including automated license plate readers, to track co-workers and people connected to them.
The Waukegan Police Department and Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office released a joint statement on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
WPD officer Oscar Magpali was charged with five counts of official misconduct following a criminal investigation into the 11-year employee.
Investigators reviewed department records and examined the activity in the Illinois Law Enforcement Agencies Data System and the National Crime Information Center.
Magpali was placed on administrative leave after the allegations.
WPD has since launched a department-wide audit to investigate potential database misuse. The investigation remains ongoing.
Magpali is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 3.
