WISCONSIN — President Donald Trump says he plans to approve $17.9 million in federal disaster relief for Wisconsin after severe storms and tornados over the summer.
The president made the announcement in a post on Truth Social on Oct. 7, but the Federal Emergency Management Agency has not published an approval as of Wednesday afternoon.
Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers and municipalities affected by storm damage also have not received additional information from FEMA or Wisconsin Emergency Management about the disaster relief, including the City of Menasha which was hit hard by an EF-3 tornado in July.
“We are encouraged to see the federal disaster assistance process moving forward, and we appreciate the continued attention being given to the communities impacted by the July storms,” Menasha Mayor Austin Hammond said in a statement. “We also know our residents are going to have a lot of questions about what this announcement means for them. We will continue working with our state and federal partners and share those details of the recently announced federal disaster assistance as soon as they are confirmed.”
Gov. Evers formally requested the federal disaster declaration in August after FEMA damage assessments found nearly $14 million in destruction to public infrastructure and another $8.2 million to residential properties across Winnebago, Outagamie, Vilas and Forest counties.
