RACINE, Wis. — One teenager is dead and another is under arrest while recovering from injuries after a shooting at a park in Racine.
Police officers responded to Lockwood Park near Graceland Blvd. and Ohio St. at 1:13 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 4, where a 17-year-old boy was shot in the back and a 16-year-old boy was shot in the chest.
The 17-year-old later died at the hospital. The 16-year-old is being treated at Children’s Hospital and was arrested as a person of interest in connection to the shooting. His condition is unknown.
Police say the gunfire stemmed from a fight during a large gathering at the park. They’re still investigating what led up to that fight and the shooting.
“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the 17-year-old who lost his life,” Racine Police said in a news release. “We also extend our thoughts to all those who were present at Lockwood Park, their families, and everyone affected by this tragedy.”
