MILWAUKEE — Hours before the Green Bay Packers take on the Atlanta Falcons Thursday night at Lambeau Field, U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) is once again pushing to make it easier, and cheaper, for fans to watch their home teams.
The Falcons-Packers game is on Amazon Prime Video. Fans outside the Milwaukee and Green Bay TV markets need a subscription to watch.
Baldwin held a virtual news conference Thursday promoting her For the Fans Act, which would require professional sports leagues to provide local fans with one free, live option for their team’s games. The legislation would also eliminate blackouts for subscribers to league-owned streaming services.
“Every Wisconsinite should be able to watch the Green and Gold tonight without more subscriptions and more costs,” Baldwin said.
Four Packers games are scheduled for streaming platforms this season, including a game on Netflix the night before Thanksgiving and Christmas day.
The senator said she’s now working to build support for the proposal in Congress and is seeking to offer it as an amendment to college sports legislation being considered by the Senate this week.
