RACINE, Wis.— A woman from Mount Pleasant is facing a homicide charge after police say she ran over her boyfriend following an argument in Racine early Sunday morning.
Police identified the victim as 26-year-old Darius Allen of Racine. Adasia Jones, 22, was arrested after the incident.
Racine police said officers responded near Hubbard and Wisconsin streets around 3 a.m. Sept. 20 for a report of a vehicle striking a pedestrian.
According to police, Allen and Jones were arguing when Allen jumped onto the hood of Jones’ vehicle. As Jones drove away, Allen fell off. Police said Jones returned moments later and ran him over.
Allen was found in the roadway and taken to Ascension Hospital before being transferred to Froedtert Hospital with several internal injuries. Police were notified around 7 a.m. that Allen had died.
Police said Jones was found to be under the influence of intoxicants. She was initially arrested on suspicion of reckless endangering safety and operating while intoxicated causing injury. After Allen’s death, the charge was amended to homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.
Jones made her initial appearance Monday, Sept. 21, in Racine County Circuit Court, according to online court records.
A court commissioner found probable cause and set a $15,000 cash bond. Her bond conditions include GPS-monitored house arrest, a prohibition on possessing or consuming alcohol and no contact with Allen’s family.
Jones is scheduled to return to court for a preliminary hearing Oct. 1 at 8:30 a.m.
