CUDAHY, Wis. — A 90-year-old woman charged in a hit-and-run crash that injured a child in Cudahy was found incompetent to proceed.

Darlene Adam was charged with one felony of hit-and-run involving injury after she allegedly hit a 9-year-old girl who was walking to school in Cudahy in October 2025. The crash happened near E. Ramsey Avenue and S. Swift Avenue on the city’s southeast side, while a crossing guard in a high-visibility vest was nearby.

A criminal complaint says surveillance footage shows a car hit the child and continue driving without stopping. The child suffered abrasions and bruising to her face. Adam told investigators she thought she hit a rock or construction barrel and did not see the crossing guard.

Adam was found not competent to proceed and released from her bail conditions on Sept. 2. A judge imposed one condition of no driving without a license.
