BROWN COUNTY, Wis.– Green Bay Packers running back Josh Jacobs has been formally charged after he allegedly threw his girlfriend to the ground during a domestic dispute.
According to the criminal complaint obtained by 620 WTMJ, Jacobs is facing two misdemeanor charges for battery and damage to property after a May confrontation in Hobart with his girlfriend.
A 911 call from the woman’s neighbor during the early morning hours of May 23 told Hobart-Lawrence police she heard “swearing” and “yelling” coming from the home.
The alleged victim told police she was looking through Jacobs’ phone, and became upset after seeing conversations with other women.
Jacobs then allegedly grabbed her arm and threw her to the ground in the garage, causing her to hit her head. Court documents show he then took her phone and damaged it.
Security footage from the home appears to validate the woman’s account. When police arrived, they observed redness on her face and neck and a bump on the back of her head.
Jacobs was arrested on May 26 on multiple charges, including battery, criminal damage to property, disorderly conduct, strangulation and suffocation, and intimidation of a victim. He spent one night in the Brown County jail before being released.
He will make his first appearance in court on November 17. If convicted, Jacobs faces up to 18 months in jail and up to $20,000 in fines.
Jacobs’ lawyers David Z. Chesnoff, Richard A. Schonfeld, and Clarence F. Duchac III released the following joint statement:
The Brown County District Attorney has reviewed evidence and elected to file misdemeanor charges against Josh that do not include domestic violence. The allegations will be addressed in court, and not in the media. Mr. Jacobs respects the District Attorney’s office and the process it followed.
Prior to the charges being filed, Jacobs’ lawyers confirmed to Vince Vitrano of Wisconsin’s Morning News back in July that the investigation was ongoing.
Jacobs was seen practicing with the Packers prior to the charges being filed.
