MADISON, Wis.— Abundant Life Christian School is calling for members of the community to rally support for Samuel ‘Samy’ Garduno-Martinez who is the victim of the shooting that took place at the school last December.
Garduno-Martinez has been in recovery since December, but now family members are asking for the public to chip into a fundraiser for his recovery.
In a GoFundMe post, Samy’s mother Gabriela says he was shot two or three times in the head, back and arm. They call it a miracle that he survived and he’s gone through extensive physical therapy, as well as spine surgery, he’s required a feeding tube and had a procedure on his vocal cords to help him speak.
Abundant Life says Samy was on the road to recovery, but faced a major setback in March.
To help with Samy’s recovery procedure, his family has temporarily moved to Chicago as he receives specialized care, but in doing so are in need of support due to excessive ongoing expenses.
The Garduno-Martinez family are currently searching for accessible housing as they look over options for Samy’s future based on his significant need of long-term housing (a new house) and accessible transportation to meet his needs.
Currenlty, the Garduno-Martinez family is asking for $140,000 dollars in donations since the fundraiser went up online and have since received more than $104,000.
