One officer is recovering in the hospital with second and third degree burns, and the other officer was treated for smoke inhalation.
UPDATE 8/7/25 9:15 PM: Milwaukee police confirm that two officers were transported to a hospital for treatment of injuries while trying to rescue the driver from the fire. The injuries are not life threatening.
MILWAUKEE — A 17-year-old is dead after a vehicle pursuit led to a car fire on Milwaukee’s north side.
The Milwaukee Police Department said officers observed a vehicle driving recklessly and wanted for a felony around 7:17 p.m. Wednesday.
Officers attempted to make a traffic stop in the area of N 19th Street and W Hampton Ave., but the 17-year-old driver refused and a vehicle pursuit ensued.
The teenage struck a tree in the 1900 block of West Hampton and the car went up in flames.
Milwaukee police said the teen was pronounced dead at the scene.
