TOWN OF WHEATLAND, Wis. (UPDATE 8/4/25 5pm) — The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of a deadly crash between a pickup truck and train.
The victim and driver of the pickup truck has been identified as Leonard A. Lois, 78, of Wheatland.
The sheriff’s office says the train involved was heading southbound. The pickup truck was traveling westbound on a private farm access road, crossing the railroad tracks, prior to the accident.
This private access road has a stop sign but is not required to have gates, bells, or flashing lights when trains pass through, according to authorities.
TOWN OF WHEATLAND, Wis. — One person died after a crash between a pickup truck and a train in Kenosha County late Sunday morning.
Law enforcement were called to a private farm service road around 10:45 a.m. around the same time as a training event, near County Hwy. W and 45th St. in Wheatland.
According to the Kenosha County Sheriffโs Office, the man inside the pickup truck was found with life-threatening injuries and later died at the scene.
According to police scanner audio from Broadcastify, one of the train’s shipping containers that was filled with a liquid was damaged in the crash. It’s unclear if any material was spilled or hazardous.
Twin Lakes Fire/Rescue, Randall Fire, Wheatland Fire, Bristol Fire, Salem Lakes Rescue, Somers Rescue, Richmond, IL Rescue and Flight for Life responded to the scene.
The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
