SHEBOYGAN, Wis. — Authorities say there are signs of foul play in the death of a 13-year-old boy at Jaycee Quarry Park in Sheboygan.
The boy went missing Tuesday afternoon while swimming in a non-designated area of the quarry, according to Sheboygan police. His body was recovered Wednesday afternoon.
Police say in the aftermath of the incident, false and misleading information has circulated on social media, and this prompted an exchange of threats among community members online.
Sheboygan Police investigated one such threat that led to an arrest.
“We urge everyone to use caution and responsibility when sharing information online,” said Sheboygan police in a statement. “Please verify facts before reposting and remember that speculation and rumors only cause further harm to those already grieving”
Both Sheboygan Jaycees Quarryview Park and the Sheboygan Quarry Beach Adventure Park and Water Sports have since reopened.
