FOND DU LAC, Wis. – A man accused of attacking and seriously injuring a woman from Fond du Lac with an axe has now been formally charged.
34-year-old Hayden Daffinson of Ripon, Wisconsin faces eight total charges, including attempted first-degree intentional homicide and first-degree sexual assault with use of dangerous weapon.
“The allegations in the criminal complaint are unconscionable that someone could do that to another person,” said Fond du Lac County District Attorney Eric Toney Wednesday.
According to the criminal complaint, Daffinson and the unidentified victim had been in a relationship for months that the victim sought to end.
That’s when Daffinson is alleged to have showed up to the victim’s home and attacked her with a hatchet, attempting to sexually assault her while striking her 25 times in the back, hands, arms, and head, according to the complaint.
At one point, Daffinson allegedly told the victim “**** it, I’m just going to kill
you, because I’m going to prison anyway”.
The woman survived the attack and is recovering after extensive surgery.
Daffinson was arrested in Germantown after a brief chase Monday that the complaint says reached speeds near 110 miles per hour.
Daffinson made his initial court appearance Wednesday; his bond was set at $5 million with conditions of no contact with the victim or witnesses involved in the case.
Daffinson returns to court July 31st.
