No, there is no Wisconsin State Fair this year, but their organizers are instead presenting State Fair Necessities, a way for fans to participate in the traditions normally held every August in West Allis.
Besides the cream puffs and Fair Food Drive-Thru still happening this year, there are fairs from the past to recall, including WTMJ’s long history there.
See some of our memories below:
August 14
How do you clean a horse? John Mercure & Erik Bilstad both put in the work at the Wisconsin State Fair.
August 12
There is no more glorious competition than the State Fair Cream Puff Eating Contest. At least, if you like a laugh. Then-WTMJ reporter Jon Meerdink dived into the contest. Literally.
August 10
John Mercure had apparently never touched a chicken…until an experience at the Wisconsin State Fair which our WTMJ microphones captured.
And the State Fair Products Pavilion…the list of what you can buy there is so vast and unusual, there are probably fewer things you WON’T find there than what you will discover inside.
August 6
Good Karma Brands Vice President & Market Manager Steve Wexler has been around for a few fairs in his time with WTMJ.
WTMJ’s Melissa Barclay took to the place where cream puff magic happens.
WTMJ Executive Producer – News Erik Bilstad rode the ejector seat ride with current Waukesha County Executive Paul Farrow in 2014.
And in 2019, Erik stuffed his face…perhaps, more splashed his face…with cream puffs.
