MILWAUKEE — We Energies customers will get money back on their electric bills this fall, thanks to “lower-than-expected fuel costs”.
The utility company says a typical residential customer will receive a credit of about $13 to $14, depending on their electricity use in October, for a total of $32 million in the automatic credits across the company.
The credits will automatically appear on customers’ October or November bills, depending on their billing cycle, so customers don’t need to do anything to receive the credit.
We Energies officials say the electric rates include an estimate on the fuel costs needed to generate eletricity. “When actual fuel costs are lower than the amount approved by the Public Service Commission of Wisconsin, customers receive the difference as a bill credit. Fuel costs in 2025 were lower than projected, resulting in this credit”.
That means residential customers will receive a credit of about 2 cents per kilowatt-hour for electricity used in October.
For customers enrolled in the Budget Billing program, We Energies officials say the credit will be included in the next account review. For customers using Energy for Tomorrow residential program, they will receive the credit to the portion of their electricity bill that is not supplied by the Energy for Tomorrow program.
