Before there was Chris Hansen, there was John Mercure.
Hansen is best known for the successful To Catch a Predator series on NBC.
But before that series began, Mercure was doing the same thing as part of the I-Team on Today’s TMJ4. Mercure joined WTMJ’s Wis. Morning News on Wednesday, describing how the series began (he discovered his daughters being solicited in a kids chat room) and his role in NBC’s version.
“(NBC) was aware of what we were doing,” Mercure explained. “We helped train them, explained logistics, etc.”
Did he feel like he was ripped off?
“Yes,” he laughed.
“When you work for the network, it’s one big family,” he added. “But some credit would’ve been nice.”
The film Primetime, based on the To Catch a Predator series, comes out in theaters on Sept. 24th.
