The Milwaukee Department of City Development says that after recent delays in getting the Couture lakefront tower started, a “breakthrough” may be happening to get funding for construction of the long-anticipated 44-story residential and business building.
WTMJ news partner Milwaukee Business Journal reports that the DCD and Department of Public Works told members of the Milwaukee Common Council that new investors for the project, spearheaded by Barrett Lo Visionary, should be joining the effort “around the end of June.”
“We’re still optimistic and we believe the project will still move forward, and at a time when so many different cities are seeing their projects stall,” said Lori Lutzka, DCD Development Projects Manager, to the Milwaukee Business Journal.
“We’re still seeing momentum, and we believe that come late June we’re going to have an announcement.”
The Couture would be located on North Lincoln Memorial Drive between East Clybourn and East Michigan Streets.
Part of the project includes a Hop (Milwaukee streetcar) station, which would finally allow for service on tracks already constructed but currently unused.
The building would also house restaurants, retail and 322 apartments.
