4/14 7:00 a.m.

Jeff Mayers of WisPolitics.com joined Wisconsin’s Morning News to recap the election results and preview what could come next. Listen in the player below.

10:35 p.m.

Our news partners at TMJ4 News report State Representative David Crowley has received 1,039 more votes than State Senator Chris Larson in the race for Milwaukee County Executive.

Their final tally has Crowley at 96,541, with Larson at 95,502.

Crowley had already declared victory this evening as absentee ballots were still being counted in several communities such as Franklin and Wauwatosa.

The margin of victory is close enough for a recount to be ordered by Larson. No word from his campaign if they will seek one.

8:02 p.m.

Three precincts have yet to report of the 480 in Milwaukee County; Crowley owns a .6% lead at this moment. https://t.co/e3KDmbATyk

7:46 p.m.

Double-digit drops of support for conservative candidates in three major suburban Milwaukee counties.

the Republican WOW counties are almost all in.
conservative court margins in 2019 and 2020:
Waukesha: from +37 to +22
Ozaukee: from +25 to +12
Washington: from +50 to +36

— Craig Gilbert (@WisVoter) April 14, 2020

7:21 p.m.

Incumbents have never lost in 80 consecutive years in the Milwaukee mayoral race.

Tom Barrett keeps winning streak alive for mayoral incumbents in Milwaukee. None have lost since 1940.

— Craig Gilbert (@WisVoter) April 14, 2020

7:17 p.m.

It’s now declared by the Associated Press and other news outlets:

Now declared by numerous news outlets: Jill Karofsky beats Justice Daniel Kelly. https://t.co/WOTFJ9QvsI

— 620wtmj (@620wtmj) April 14, 2020

7:09 p.m.

“I’m a little overwhelmed…and deeply honored to be the next justice of the Wisconsin Supreme Court,” said Jill Karofsky at the start of her news conference. But no official winner yet declared. https://t.co/WOTFJ9QvsI

— Craig Gilbert (@WisVoter) April 13, 2020

6:49 p.m.

Tearmen Spencer has defeated incumbent Grant Langley by a 61 to 39 percent margin for the City Attorney job in Milwaukee.

Langley has been on the job for 36 years.

The city’s voters also approved going beyond $57 million in new property tax funding for MPS.

6:43 p.m.

99% of precincts reporting in Milwaukee County, and David Crowley has a little more than a 1,000-vote lead on Chris Larson in what is about a 50-50 race for Milwaukee County Executive.

6:37 p.m.

at 100% in, MKE county reporting >172K votes.
that is only a modest 15% increase over 2019. but liberal margin is much bigger than 2019: 38 pts compared to 25 pts

— Craig Gilbert (@WisVoter) April 13, 2020

6:32 p.m.

very little of Madison has reported yet, which will expand the margins when it does.
some of the few Madison precincts that have reported:
ward 6: 922-172 (Karofsky over Kelly)
ward 2: 573-94
ward 3: 433-93

— Craig Gilbert (@WisVoter) April 13, 2020

6:25 p.m.

He’s been Milwaukee’s mayor for 16 years. He will be again. https://t.co/5qQHINn3TM

— 620wtmj (@620wtmj) April 13, 2020

6:17 p.m.

milwaukee county with 96% in = 38-point liberal margin
in 2019 it was a 25-point liberal margin

— Craig Gilbert (@WisVoter) April 13, 2020

6:13 p.m.

here are 2 telling sets of numbers from the WOW counties.
Ozaukee: with 98% in, conservative Kelly up 12; conservative won by 25 in 2019 court race
Washington: with 98% in, Kelly up by 36; conservative won by 50 in 2019.

— Craig Gilbert (@WisVoter) April 13, 2020

6:08 p.m.

From WTMJ alumnus Charlie Sykes…

Remember, the entire point of forcing in person voting in Wisconsin’s pandemic election, was because the GOP wanted to save Justice Kelly’s seat. It looks like he’s losing anyway.

— Charlie Sykes (@SykesCharlie) April 13, 2020

6:05 p.m.

From WTMJ alumnus Charlie Sykes…

Appears increasingly likely that Liberal challenger will defeat GOP-backed conservative income in Wisconsin Supreme Court Justice https://t.co/Rnj0jddrlU

— Charlie Sykes (@SykesCharlie) April 13, 2020

5:58 p.m.

Karofsky with larger leads in Kenosha than past Wisconsin Supreme Court liberal candidates.

Karofsky now up in Kenosha County 56-44 with 94% in;
the liberal candidate got 48% last year

— Craig Gilbert (@WisVoter) April 13, 2020

5:57 p.m.

No Milwaukee votes counted yet – 33% of precincts reporting – and Jill Karofsky leads Daniel Kelly by less than 3,000 votes. https://t.co/pKJZKXOHB2

— 620wtmj (@620wtmj) April 13, 2020

5:50 p.m.

Madison starting to coming in, so Karofsky pctg in Dane County should continue to rise from 70/71 to something closer to 80 (liberal vote was 79% in Dane last year)

— Craig Gilbert (@WisVoter) April 13, 2020

5:49 p.m.

Another pretty good result for Dems in northern WI is Marathon County, the most populous county in WI-7. @DecisionDeskHQ has it 100% in, and it’s Kelly (R-aligned) +4. Last year it was for conservative Brian Hagedorn by 19%. Looks like turnout down slightly. https://t.co/fkj0gHpsar

— J. Miles Coleman (@JMilesColeman) April 13, 2020

5:37 p.m.

It’s pretty clear by now that the early trends favor Karofsky over Kelly despite narrow Kelly lead, with Kelly under-performing the 2019 conservative vote in red counties in what was a 50/50 race, and Madison and much of MKE county not reporting yet

— Craig Gilbert (@WisVoter) April 13, 2020

5:27 p.m.

i am seeing the same thing. Kelly consistently running behind Hagedorn which doesn’t bode well for the conservative court candidate in this race https://t.co/ltCipZZEoH

— Craig Gilbert (@WisVoter) April 13, 2020

5:24 p.m.

TMJ4.com has projected Marsy’s Law, a state constitutional amendment proposal purportedly designed to give crime victims more rights in criminal cases, will pass this stage of the amendment process.

At 5:25 p.m., it had a 183,000 vote lead with 21 percent of precincts reporting.

5:23 p.m.

From Milwaukee’s Election Commission meeting today:

-390 absentee ballots w/o postmarks or improperly postmarked
-18,803 voters appeared in person
-76,352 absentee ballots have been processed
-Officials believe about 18,000 requested absentee ballots never got to voters https://t.co/zWmgsrNgDP

— Stephanie Haines (@TMJ4Stephanie) April 13, 2020

the non Madison portion of Dane County was exactly 71% for the liberal candidate in 2019, so that tracks pretty closely https://t.co/Xg36CrisjF

— Craig Gilbert (@WisVoter) April 13, 2020

5:15 p.m.

Kelly only winning Marathon County 52-48 with 74% in. Again that is behind Hagedorn 2019 (59-41)

— Craig Gilbert (@WisVoter) April 13, 2020

5:10 p.m.

As of this moment, no votes from the City of Milwaukee have been tabulated. Suburban municipalities have had some totals come in so far. Daniel Kelly is up two percentage points on Jill Karofsky.

conservative Kelly seems to be under-performing conservative Hagedorn’s 2019 numbers in red counties in SE WI so far. again, some of that may be due to mix of localities reporting early, but the pattern is across counties.
Hagedorn won statewide by half a point in 2019

— Craig Gilbert (@WisVoter) April 13, 2020

5:07 p.m.

Kenosha County is 50/50 with 89% in. In 2019, conservative candidate won by 3.

— Craig Gilbert (@WisVoter) April 13, 2020

5:05 p.m.

Kelly, the conservative candidate, is getting smaller margins than conservative Hagedorn did in the WOW counties in 2019 court race. this may be due to the mix of localities reporting. I don’t know

— Craig Gilbert (@WisVoter) April 13, 2020

5:03 p.m.

BREAKING: Former Vice President Joe Biden has been projected to win the Democratic Primary for President in the State of Wisconsin.

LIVE coverage online: https://t.co/pKJZKXOHB2 pic.twitter.com/fRIYsZWp93

— 620wtmj (@620wtmj) April 13, 2020

4:57 p.m.

Kelly up in Waukesha County by 32 pts with 39% in. conservative candidate won Waukesha by 37 pts in 2019. but these numbers will change as different localities report

— Craig Gilbert (@WisVoter) April 13, 2020

4:55 p.m.

In the race for South Milwaukee School Board, Sarah Brooks (inc), Patrick Hintz, and Augie Vega (inc) have all won seats.https://t.co/pKJZKXOHB2

— 620wtmj (@620wtmj) April 13, 2020

4:54 p.m.

In the race for Shorewood School Board, all three incumbents, Pablo Muirhead, Paru Shah, and Clarke Warren have all won re-election.

academic interest: Biden beating Sanders by 2-to-1 in early Dane County numbers, FWIW …

— Craig Gilbert (@WisVoter) April 13, 2020

3:59 p.m.

.@MadisonWIClerk Maribeth Witzel-Behl, when asked if the vote counting will take all night:

”It better not take all night! We will simultaneously be running eight tabulators.”

— Patrick Marley (@patrickdmarley) April 13, 2020

3:31 p.m.

It’s true of most elections that the closer the margin, the greater the chance the result will litigated, disputed, doubted.
multiply that tenfold for WI’s April 7 court election, with results forthcoming after 4 pm CT/5 pm ET. a very, very close outcome would surprise no one.
