MADISON- The University of Wisconsin hasn’t lost faith in head football coach Luke Fickell.
Athletic Director Chris McIntosh doubled down on his support of the earstwile coach during an appearance on ESPN Wisconsin’s Wilde & Tausch Friday morning.
“The decision that needs to be made is whether we have the right people in our program. Do we have the right right head coach in our pogram? Do we ahve the right staff in our program? That’s the decision and that’s wher I feel confident going forward,” McIntosh said. “Luke Fickell still possess all the same qualities that made him a great hire three years ago.”
McIntosh also downplayed rumblings that Fickell’s reported $25-million buyout played a large role in the University sticking by their coach.
“If I felt there is a change that needed to be made I wouldn’t hesitate in making that change,” McIntosh said. “I just feel like the best path for us to position ourselves to be successful as soon as 2026 is with Luke Fickell as our head coach.”
The Badgers are currently 0-5 in Big 10 play, and 2-6 on the season. During his 3 seasons as head coach of the Badgers, the team has ammassed an overall record of 15-19 and a conference record of 8-15
During his nearly 30-minute long interview with the show, McIntosh discussed the importance of NIL and how that will play a role in the success of the program moving forward and the football programs relationship to high schools around the state.
