UPDATE: It would appear the Brewers are planning a larger celebration for if/when they clinch the NL Central Division, rather than when they clinch a berth in the playoffs.
The Brewers are widely expected to clinch a spot as early as this weekend. With loftier goals ahead, what will a post-season berth celebration look like?
“I think it’ll be relatively muted,” President of Business Operations Rick Schlesinger told WTMJ’s Wis. Morning News. “We’re going to wait for bigger goals to be achieved.”
Like what?
“I think a division title is worthy of a celebration,” Schlesinger clarified. “Everybody is focused on winning the division and getting a bye (in the playoffs).”
MILWAUKEE – The Brewers hope to clinch another post-season berth during the team’s upcoming series with the St. Louis Cardinals at American Family Field.
However, one question remains: Considering the Crew have bigger fish to fry, how big will the celebration be?
“It’s still a discussion, honestly,” Brewers Sr. VP and General Manager Matt Arnold admitted to WTMJ’s Wis. Morning News on Thursday. “Anytime you make the post-season you need to celebrate it. I think the big thing is :What is our message? To our team? To our fans? Hopefully it’s the first step in a long line of steps.”

The Brewers went 26 years (1983 – 2008) without making the playoffs, so Arnold believes it’s still important to acknowledge the achievement.
“We certainly want to celebrate it. We play responsibly, we want to celebrate responsibly too,” he explained. “It’s a cool thing.”
Meanwhile, the team is looking to stay fresh but to also take time to recover as the season winds down. In order to monitor player health, the team is “collecting game data from Statcast but also from the wearable devices that are ubiquitous in the clubhouse,” per Brewers.com reporter Adam McCalvy.
Arnold was asked about using wearable devices.
“There are lot more scientific ways to measure fatigue (other than just asking the player how he’s feeling),” Arnold said. “We have a team of guys that are trying to assess everybody every single day. We’ve been playing so many games. We want to make sure we’re fresh heading into October.”
