WEST ALLIS, Wis.– The Milwaukee Brewers honored over 30 World War II Veterans at the home game against the Phillies on Thursday.
100-year-old Burly Brellenthin threw the first pitch. Brellenthin served in Guam, Saipan, and Tinian in WWII.
“I’m assisted living area. I practiced outside. They marked off 60 feet,” says Brellenthin. “I was amazed when they selected to me. It’s a complete honor. I really had doubts about how far I could throw that darn ball.”
The veterans ranged in age from 97 to 105, from across the southeast Wisconsin region. They
“I was one of the few women in the shop, so we always had a good time. And the men, of course, were very kind. The fellows were all eager to teach you whatever you needed to know. They welcomed us in the shops,” said Fung Shou Sholz, an original ‘Rosie the Riveter’ and navy inspector. “It was amazing having never been in such a big field. It’s beautiful out there.”
The recognition marks the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
