HILLSBORO, Wis. — A 12-year-old died and an 11-year-old was injured after a UTV crash Wednesday afternoon.
According to Vernon County Sheriff’s Office, the two children were operating a farm UTV on private property near Kouba Valley Rd. in the Town of Greenwood on July 2. The 12-year-old was driving down a slightly declining gravel road when the child lost control in a curve to the right.
The 12-year-old later died at the hospital and the 11-year-old passenger was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The crash is still under investigation by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources, Vernon County Sheriff’s Office and Vernon County Coroner’s Office.
This is the 20th death from an ATV or UTV in Wisconsin this year. The DNR says most victims were not wearing seat belts or helmets.
