WASHINGTON — FreshRealm has recalled its chicken fettuccine alfredo microwavable meals sold at Kroger and Walmart stores due to possible listeria contamination.
As of Sunday, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 16 people hospitalized and three deaths, as well as one pregnancy associated illness that resulted in a fetal loss. Those illnesses started between July 24, 2024 and May 10, 2025 across 13 states.
No one has reported sickness in Wisconsin, but multiple illnesses are in surrounding Midwest states. Two of the deaths were reported in Illinois and Michigan.
The chicken fettucine alfredo meals were sold under the brand names Marketside and Home Chef in the refrigerated section. Frozen meals are not affected by this recall.
Recalled products include:
- 32.8-oz. tray packages containing “MARKETSIDE GRILLED CHICKEN ALFREDO WITH FETTUCCINE Tender Pasta with Creamy Alfredo Sauce, White Meat Chicken and Shaved Parmesan Cheese” with best-by date 06/27/25 or prior.
- 12.3 oz. tray packages containing “MARKETSIDE GRILLED CHICKEN ALFREDO WITH FETTUCCINE Tender Pasta with Creamy Alfredo Sauce, White Meat Chicken, Broccoli and Shaved Parmesan Cheese” with best-by date 06/26/25 or prior.
- 12.5 oz. tray packages containing “HOME CHEF Heat & Eat Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo with pasta, grilled white meat chicken, and Parmesan cheese” with best-by date 06/19/25 or prior.
The products bear the USDA mark of inspection and establishment numbers “EST. P-50784,” “EST. P-47770,” or “EST. P-47718” printed on the side of the packaging. The recalled meals should no longer be available for sale in stores.
Recalled meals should be disposed of or returned to the store. The CDC advises cleaning your refrigerator, and any other containers or surfaces that may have touched the chicken fettuccine alfredo meals.
Listeria symptoms include headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions, in addition to fever, muscle aches, and tiredness. Symptoms usually start within two weeks after eating contaminated food, but may start as early as the same day or as late as 10 weeks after.
The listeria bacteria can be especially harmful to pregnant women. It can cause pregnancy loss, premature birth or a life-threatening infection in newborns. For people over age 65 and those with weakened immune systems, it can more easily result in hospitalization and sometimes death.
