A recent fundraiser by the Racine County Sheriff’s Office regarding facial hair leads to a donation to the Women’s Resource Center in Racine.
During November and December of 2019, a number of staff members of the sheriff’s office took part. Male deputies and corrections officers could donate $50, allowing them to grow facial hair which is normally prohibited. Other members also donated in varying amounts. Their fundraising effort collected $3,000.
In late February, Sheriff Christopher Schmaling and other members were able to deliver 9 “New Journey Baskets” to the Women’s Resource Center. Each “New Journey Basket” holds household essentials such as pots and pans, dishes and utensils, bathroom essentials and towels.
Their donation also included a 40-inch smart TV and Blu-Ray player and $250.
Sheriff Schmaling says he is proud of his members for taking part in supporting their organization. He adds this tradition with facial hair will return in October.
