Family-friendly events for mild thrills, candy and fun
Head to Cave of the Mounds all October for a unique spin on trick-or-treating. The HOLLOWeen celebration invites kids and adults to participate in a rock-collecting event in honor of Halloween. You’ll visit special trick-or-treat stations to take a few favorite rocks and crystals home for a unique twist on the tradition. Costumes are encouraged!
See stories of yore come to life at Old World Wisconsin’s Legends & Lore. The three-weekend event is a popular and family-friendly spin on Halloween activities. You’ll hear haunted histories from costumed performers, see scary folktales come to life, savor Halloween-themed brews and food and enjoy plenty of family-friendly frights. Legends & Lore takes place on Friday and Saturday evenings on October 9, 10, 16, 17, 23 and 24.
Visit Devil’s Lake State Park for a special event to show off your carving skills. The Halloween Extravaganza happens Saturday, October 24. It’ll feature a ton of activities for the kids, including free pumpkin carving. At dusk, take your freshly carved pumpkin to line the trail for a candlelight hike. Stick around after the sun sets for a bonfire, s’mores and campfire music.
Spine-tingling experiences for thrill-seekers

Find frightful fun in the haunted hills of the Wisconsin Dells. The Curse at Wisconsin Dells Mountain Coaster is a special event for Halloween at the new mountain coaster attraction. You’ll brave the trail leading to the top of the hill. Then, ride the gravity-propelled cart down the hill as scares, jumps and frights line the way. The limited event takes place Friday and Saturday evenings through October.
Test your nerves on a visit to the Sheboygan Haunted Asylum. This haunted attraction takes over a former medical facility outside of Sheboygan Falls. Live scare actors, darkness, loud noises, frightening elements and theatrical effects combine for a bone-chilling experience. New this year is a haunted corn maze. Brave the maze and discover what’s luring in between the rows.
Haunted events to ring in Halloween
Travel to Vilas County to live it up with the undead. Land O’ Lakes hosts an annual Zombie Crawl that’s been growing in popularity. The event takes place on Saturday, October 31, in the self-declared Halloween Town of Wisconsin. Do up your best zombie makeup and join the crawl for live music, ghost hunts, a costume contest and Witches Ball to cap off the night.
Embrace your inner child for Adult Swim at the Madison Children’s Museum. Throughout the year, the museum hosts adult-only events known as Adult Swim. Start planning your costume for Scarewolves and Glampires on Friday, October 30. It’ll be a Halloween party for grownups, with dancing, drinks, arts and crafts, music and much more.
