MILWAUKEE — A 28-year-old man arrested for the deaths of two men at a recording studio on the north side of the city was charged with homicide.
Kelven Harris is accused of shooting and killing 33-year-old Quentene Williams and 21-year-old Dequaiseon Evans near 31st St. and Cameron Ave. on Aug. 17. Harris called 911 and admitted to firing the shots, according to a criminal complaint.
Harris told police that he was at the recording studio when Evans took his gun during an argument about a family dispute. Harris said he unsuccessfully tried to get the gun back from Evans multiple times, then grabbed another gun from a counter and shot him. He then saw Williams move towards another firearm, and shot Williams as he tried to leave.
In a 911 call, Harris stated, “I’m not gonna lie from this, I did something because somebody took my gun off of me and I was trying to get it back when I had to snatch another gun and I ended up killing somebody, but that’s all I can say.”
Police later recovered the gun used in the murders after Harris told them he tossed it into a river.
The complaint notes that Harris said he fired the first shots because he feared Evans might shoot him, but investigators said Evans’ handguns were still in his pocket and waistband when police arrived.
Harris’s initial appearance in court is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 25.
