**Update: Gene Mueller plans to return on Monday, Oct. 14th**
When Gene Mueller walks, there is no longer a hitch to his giddy-up.
“I’m not bow-legged anymore. Â I’ll need to see if my pants still fit,” joked the 63-year-old.
The host of WTMJ’s Wisconsin’s Morning News has been ‘on leave’ since the beginning of September as he recuperates from double knee replacement surgery.
According to Mueller, it was a procedure he sorely needed.
“Everything was a chore (before the surgery),” he explained. “(But) I’m getting my mobility back. Â I’m getting a better ‘quality of life’ back.”
Mueller is improving every day. Â
“The knees are great. Â I’m getting more confident every day,” he said while sitting on his couch in the basement of his Hales Corners home. Â Walking up-and-down the stairs to his ‘man-cave’ was a recent development in his recovery efforts.
The Milwaukee radio veteran misses the “energy” and “adrenaline” of being on the air and admitted he’s growing stir-crazy at home. Â
“(I miss) being around young people. It’s invigorating. Â And at this point everyone is younger than me,” he joked.
Mueller will meet with his surgeon in the coming days to determine the next step of the recovery process. Â He’s confident he will return soon.
