The Historic Preservation Commission deemed Milwaukee's Marcus Center for the Performing Arts a historic structure on Monday.
But it's not a done deal, with the Milwaukee Common Council to ultimately decide if the designation stands.
Marcus President and CEO Paul Mathews is appealing the designation.Â
That’s because he’s seeking to incorporate a new landscape plan. Mathews says the plan would make the area accessible to those with disabilities, something he says the current grove doesn't do.
At issue are plans to remove a grove of horse chestnut trees. Preservationists want them to stay.
Mathews joined Wisconsin’s Morning News for more on the debate and to discuss what's next. To listen to the full interview, click in the player below.Â
