The city of Milwaukee continues to mourn the death of Officer Matthew Rittner.
The 17-year veteran of the police force was shot and killed Wednesday morning while serving a search warrant on the city's south side.
This is the third deadly police incident in just eight months.
“We have not had time to heal from the first loss of Charles Irvine,” Milwaukee Police Department Chaplain George Papachristou tells WTMJ. “It's just like a wound that continually becomes opened up. So it's been very, very difficult to get our people back on track.”
“Chief Morales has made it very clear that officer wellness is a priority. The department has endorsed that and embraced it and we're doing everything we can for our folks.”
Papachristou says the best thing the community can do is continue to show their support for local officers.
