With more than 15,000 lakes, two great lakes and 43,000 miles of river, Wisconsin’s fresh coast has options to spend time in, on or near the water this summer. We want to remind travelers to follow public health guidance and take necessary precautions for safe and responsible recreation.
Swimming and Beaches
There is nothing like spending the day at the beach, especially in gorgeous scenic areas like at a Wisconsin State Park.
Head toPattison State Park in Superior for a day of fun in and around the water. The beach at the 27-acre Interfalls Lake is a great spot for a beach day, then take a break from the sun and hike to view the park’s waterfalls. Pattison State Park is home to Wisconsin’s highest waterfall – Big Manitou Falls and it’s twin Little Manitou Falls. Pattison State Park is celebrating 100 years as a state park in 2020 and additional trails to the waterfalls are being reopened in a few weeks after being redone due to storm damage.
Paddle Sports
Wisconsin’s vast waterways are a paddle sport playground for all kinds of fun aboard a kayak, canoe, or stand up paddleboard (SUP).
Check out the Rock River National Water Trail for paddling along scenic Wisconsin riverfronts. This 320-mile water trail weaves from its headwaters above the Horicon National Wildlife Refuge to our Southern neighbors at the Quad Cities of Illinois and Iowa. There are155 access sites along the water trail, 50 of which are designated as accessible to persons with disabilities. Paddlers who navigate all 320 miles of the trail, either in segments or continuously, are recognized with the 320-Mile Award and patch.
Surfing
Known as the “Malibu of the Midwest”, the location and geography of the Sheboygan area has made surfing a local pastime for decades.
Visit EOS Surf in Sheboygan for surfing rentals and lessons on Lake Michigan. It isperfect for beginners to get their feet wet in the sport, but the area still offers plenty of thrill for more experienced surfers. EOS Surf also offers stand up paddleboards, single and tandem kayaks and more.
