Watch Melissa Barclay learn to bake a pumpkin pie, the Honeypie way.
Â
Whether your a fan of classic pies like pumpkin and apple or fancier ones like banana cream and key lime, this time of year spells big business for pie makers preparing for the Thanksgiving holiday.
WTMJ’s Melissa Barclay goes behind the pie-making scenes at HoneyPie Bake Shop in Bay View to see how the magic happens.Â
This time around the focus was pumpkin pie with lots of hand whipped cream, sprinkled with candied pepitas.
But if pumpkin pie isn’t your thing, apple is usually a close second.
Honeypie Bake Shop was generous enough to give WTMJ their very special apple pie recipe. Consider it a holiday gift from the bake shop.Â
Honeypie Bake Shop Apple Pie recipe:
10 apples (granny smith are the best but you can substitute another apple)
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 Tablespoons flour
juice from one lemon
Peel and cut apples, add the rest of the ingredients, put into a pie shell, bake at 400 degrees for 1 hour, turn oven down to 375 degrees, add crumble topping, bake for another 1/2 hour or until it is golden and bubbly. Â
Enjoy!Â
