How far would you go to save someone you love?
Sarah Klavas calls herself a “grateful mother of a recovering addict.” And in 2012 her family was put to the ultimate test.
She discovered that a divine love and a mother's devotion is so much stronger than the gnawing clench that drugs and addiction could ever have.
Addiction is a brutal, unforgiving disease.
Klavas saw her son T.J. spiral into a dark place back in 2012 and was brave enough to share her story with WTMJ's Melissa Barclay.Â
Tough life lessons were learned along the way and decisions had to be made about how they were going to approach helping their son.Â
“We are going tackle it as a family, and we're going to love our son through all of this. But I had to learn that that kind of love, had to be tough love,” said Klavas. Â Â
The Adult and Teen Challenge program helped T.J. Klavas into recovery and now he works for the organization.
