A former University of Wisconsin star is on the cusp of forcing a trade if the Los Angeles Chargers don’t offer him a new contract.
As reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter:
Los Angeles running back Melvin Gordon has informed the Chargers that unless he receives a new contract, he will not report to training camp and he will demand a trade, his agent Fletcher Smith told ESPN.

Unless he has a new deal, Chargers’ RB Melvin Gordon will not report to training camp, not when he currently is scheduled to be heading into the last year of his contract, a fifth-year option, worth $5.6 million dollars.

Schefter cites the new contracts for backs like Le’Veon Bell (4 years, $52 million), Todd Gurley (4 years, $57 million) and David Johnson (3 years, $39 million) as a possible impetus for Gordon’s reported demands.
Gordon has two Pro Bowls on his four-year professional resume, in 2016 and 2018.
In 12 games last year, Gordon ran for 885 yards, caught 50 passes for 490 yards, and scored 14 combined touchdowns.
