Two college basketball players from the cheese state are on the latest list of 20 players who are candidates for being named the best player in their sport.
Marquette guard Markus Howard and Wisconsin forward Ethan Happ have both been named to the 2019 John Wooden Award Late Season Top 20 Watch List.
Howard is having a career year in helping lead Marquette to a No. 8 ranking in the Associated Press Top 25 poll. He is averaging 25 points per game, fourth best in the country, while also averaging four rebounds and 4.2 assist per game. He is hitting 43.3 percent of his three-point shots and 91.1 percent of his free throws, seventh-best in America.
Happ has also turned around the Badgers’ fortunes in returning them to the top 20 this week. For the season, he is averaging a double-double (18.5 points, 10.3 rebounds per game) while also delivering 5.1 assists per contest. He is 9th in America in defensive rebounding (181 total).
During late March in the Elite Eight round, the Wooden All-American team (five starters) will be released. The winner of the Wooden Award will be named on April 12.
