As the Green Bay Packers get ready to take on the Minnesota Vikings in their first game of the 2020 season, quarterback Aaron Rodgers is still checking in on a business he helped save during the off-season.
Patrick Daley is the owner of Kettle of Fish, a Packers themed bar which has been in New York for more than 70 years.
He says when the pandemic hit, they were forced to close their doors and were at risk of shutting down for good.
Some local patrons started an online fundraiser called “Save the Kettle” back in late June. That’s when Rodgers got involved.
“He retweeted it, and then the donations shot up. It was great. We had quite the night the night Aaron retweeted it,” Daley said.
In fact, Rodgers had been to the bar just one year earlier when he was in town for an event.
“We had a blast,” Daley said.
The Kettle of Fish is busy getting ready for Sunday’s opener against the Minnesota Vikings by prepping outdoor seating that can accommodate about 30 people.
Daley says he knows Rodgers was busy getting ready too, which is why he was so surprised to hear from the Pro-Bowl quarterback this week.
“Two days ago he got a hold of me. He emailed me and asked me how things were going,” Daley said.
“So I thought that was pretty incredible considering he’s got an opening game, against the Vikings of all teams, this weekend.”
Daley says the bar will be open and ready for kickoff come Sunday.
As for the final score?
“I’m gonna go Packers 28, Minnesota 10,” Daley said.
