OCONOMOWOC — Many fine dining locations are engaging in a balancing act during the coronavirus pandemic, an uncomfortable challenge when many customers have differing opinions on how to operate during a global health crisis.
At Weissgerber’s Golden Mast Inn, owners have implemented social distance guidelines, employees wear masks, and everyone who enters has their temperature taken.
“We are doing everything we can to help be a part of the solution,” said General Manager Lisa Marks during our recent WTMJ Roundtable.
The waterfront venue sits on Okauchee Lake in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin. Marks says the attraction of the location can add to the challenge of keeping all customers happy.
“It’s hard. People come in on a Friday night. Especially being out in the Lake Country, you have a lot of people who don’t want to see the social distancing. Then you have those that are calling and asking ‘What are you doing? Are you wearing masks? What sanitation practices are you using?’ They want to come back out and they want to feel safe,” she explains.
On top of keeping tables distanced, the restaurant as a whole looks different. Marks says the silverware is wrapped, the tables are not fully set and customers’ reactions are all over the spectrum.
“Some people are in masks and nervous. Some people are ready to say, ‘Forget this whole thing,’ ” concludes Marks.
