Glenn Dohrmann was a combat rifle platoon leader and company commander, serving from 1946-1954. Dohrmann received the Silver Star.
Dohrmann and twenty-two men in his platoon had two hills that they had to attack.
“It was like a wall of steel that you had to face,” said Dohrmann to WTMJ’s John Mercure.
Dohrmann was hit a total of three times throughout this battle.
After he was knocked unconscious after the second time, Dohrmann came to and supplied his men with machine guns and told them to blow out the enemy.
“You can do this,” Dohrmann encouraged his men.
After being hit a third time, Dohrmann recalls four Korean laborers coming to assist him, as another mortar came.
“They dropped me, (and) ran to the tanks for protection. I don’t blame them, I would have run too if I could. And that’s all I remember.”
Sixty years later, Dohrmann had the opportunity to take the Honor Flight in 2015.
“It was a far greater experience than I thought it would be,” he stated.
