As the self-proclaimed “Indie Capital of the Midwest”, the influence of arts and culture in Eau Claire is evident throughout the community. Sculptures and murals add vibrant color around town and local shops and art centers help foster creativity for residents and visitors alike.
The Sculpture Tour Eau Claire is an outdoor public art exhibit with nearly 60 sculptures that are changed every year. Public murals grace buildings and provide photo-worthy stops such as the iconic giant hop seed mural at The Brewing Projekt. Other local stores and galleries offer a way to support area artists and makers such as Tangled Up in Hue, a local art collective and gift shop with work from over 150 artists and crafters including their own staff. Also, check out The Local Store where everything is either made or produced by someone local or created to evoke a sense of local love.
The rich heritage of Kewaunee County and the beauty of the natural area blend together in the arts and culture scene of Algoma. The Algoma Historic Murals share glimpses into the past with murals that recreate historic mural advertisements featuring area businesses and products. This self-guided walking tour offers a history and explanation on each piece as you explore the unique architecture of downtown buildings.
This lakeside community has a variety of galleries and creative businesses that call Algoma home. Check out the Robert Ray Gallery, right on the shore next to Algoma’s harbor, a contemporary fine art gallery. Or, Steele Street Trading Company and Gallery an eclectic, full-service flower store with a variety of locally made goods and artwork. While you are in town, stop by WaterFront Creations, an artisan marketplace and gift shop with Wisconsin made items and products.
In the charming community of Wittenberg, 30 murals grace the walls on local buildings and add a vibrant splash of color and creativity to the village. These murals include tributes to the area’s history and community members. Some feature unique scenes like a Warhol-esque set of postages stamps, a tropical island and a Green Bay Packers piece. The Walls of Wittenberg are a must see while you are in the area, and a gem of public art in Wisconsin.
