The results of the February mayoral primary have set up a one-on-one battle between the longtime incumbent mayor of Milwaukee and a state senator representing the city.
With 93 percent of precincts reporting in the mayoral primary Tuesday at 8:42 p.m., Mayor Tom Barrett had 50 percent of the vote coming in, with State Senator Lena Taylor garnering 31 percent.
Her margin over third-place Anthony ZIelinski at that time was 15 percent, and more votes than Zielinski could mathematically overcome at the time.
Barrett has been the mayor of Milwaukee for 16 years, longer than any mayor of a city of Milwaukee’s size or larger in America.
“I’m glad to be in the fight”- Lena Taylor arrived to her watch party to a round of applause. With 91-percent reporting, she is in second place behind incumbent Mayor Barrett. The top two candidates advance. @tmj4 pic.twitter.com/1wULC9uxRC
