ATU Local 998, the Milwaukee-area bus drivers union, tells WTMJ news partner TMJ4 News that one of their drivers has tested positive for coronavirus.
That driver was not identified.
In the county’s daily coronavirus update Friday, MCTS Managing Director Dan Boehm says they worked with the Milwaukee Health Department to confirm the driver has the virus.
“We cooperated with the Milwaukee Health Department to identify other bus operators that may have shared a bus with that individual,” says Boehm. “If you’re familiar with our buses, we do have a plexiglass security shield. The Milwaukee Health Department took a look at that shield concept and indicated that they were not concerned about the contact between passengers and operators as a potential form of contamination.”
MCTS also announced in a joint news conference that ridership would be using a “weekend schedule” for weekday bus rides, similar to the Saturday schedule. That includes temporary suspension of the freeway flyer service.
