Children’s Wisconsin has said that a doctor at their hospital in Milwaukee has had a positive test for COVID-19.
In a statement, the medical group said that the doctor was traveling outside Wisconsin before travel restrictions were placed by government officials when he contracted the virus. He currently is recovering “with mild symptoms.”
“Upon returning to Wisconsin, the doctor experienced no symptoms but learned they had been exposed and immediately self-quarantined and requested testing. We began staff and patient notifications as soon as the test was confirmed,” said the statement.
“The exposure happened approximately seven days before diagnosis.”
“All patient families or staff who came into contact with this doctor have been identified and contacted,” said the statement.
“Patient families have been given individualized instructions and support for their needs. Staff have been instructed on next steps based on CDC guidelines, ranging from monitoring symptoms, self-quarantine or testing.
Children’s says that the infection prevention team is contacting all patient families who were exposed to that doctor.
“Patient families have been given individualized instructions and support for their needs. If you haven’t been contacted, there is nothing you need to do at this time.”
