Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson will officially be Supreme Court justice after the Senate voted 53-47 to confirm her today. She is the first Black female to hold such a position in the court’s history.
Jackson is also the first Justice to have served as a public defender in years.
However, she won’t be immediately sworn in. She has to wait until Justice Stephen Breyer retires this summer to formally assume his chair.
