No mask, no problem.
The Boys and Girls Club of Dane County is on a mission to hand out 1 million face masks to individuals around Dane County and other parts of the state.
President and CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of Dane County Michael Johnson tells WTMJ when the pandemic hit in the spring of 2020, they started reaching out to people all over the country to try to bring face masks and hand sanitizer to their community.
“We were really concerned about people who are the most marginalized,” Johnson said.
They ended up hitting the jackpot.
“A connection of mine through the Boys and Girls Club of America connected us to UPS and they ended up giving us a half million bottles of hand sanitizer and then Ford Motor Company ended up donating a million face masks,” said Johnson.
The distribution of the masks has truly been a collaborative effort.
“We ended up partnering with a couple of groups so, we are delivering face masks to local schools, to local non-profits for free and we’ll continue to do that until we run out,” said Johnson.
He believes this is currently the largest face mask distribution in the state of Wisconsin.
So far the non-profit has given away 625,000 masks.
