MADISON — The COVID-19 vaccine is headed to nursing homes across the Wisconsin.
In the release, Governor Tony Evers announced the start of on-site vaccinations at skilled nursing facilities as part of the Pharmacy Partnership Program for Long-Term Care. This partnership will pair nursing homes with Walgreens or CVS to provide free, on-site vaccinations for residents and staff.
“This partnership will help reduce the strain on our long-term care facilities and help deliver the vaccine to those in higher-risk populations,” said Gov. Evers. “Protecting our most vulnerable Wisconsinites is a top priority and will be a critical step for the success of Wisconsin’s COVID-19 Vaccine Program,” Evers says.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Health Services, nursing homes will receive the Moderna vaccine. The state has allocated 56,800 total doses for the cause.
The DHS expects the program to continue at participating facilities for approximately two months.
