MILWAUKEE — While the holidays are a time of happiness and joy for many, it is also a time of great loneliness and sadness for others.
Dr. Mike Zussman, from the board of the Wisconsin Psychological Association and owner of Sunrise Counseling in Whitefish Bay, told Wisconsin’s Morning News that the holiday cheer, lights, and family time shown on TV and online are triggering points for those suffering this time of year.
“Part of the problem could be loneliness. They see all of this festive, great family time together on TV, and they may not have anyone [to be with],” Zussman says.
COVID-19 has made things worse. Zussman says that those without significant others, who live far away from family, will have a hard time spending the holiday alone.
