To say it’s been a tumultuous year for the Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission and the men and women in blue who it oversees would be a massive understatement.
MPD prepped for a major international event, that being the Democratic National Convention, that ended up being a far diminished occasion. There was civil unrest in the streets after the death of George Floyd. And upheaval at the top of the department, culminating in the demotion of Chief Alfonso Morales.
All that, as the Commission itself limped along amid internal acrimony brought on by resignations, allegations and other upheaval.
That same group, or at least what’s left of it, is about to hire Morales’ replacement.
That could happen as early as tonight.
The FPC is set to meet and discuss the remaining three finalists- Malik Aziz, Chris Davis, and Hoyt Mahaley.
Dan Bice of the Journal Sentinel joined WTMJ to preview the meeting and dive deeper into the three candidates.
