MILWAUKEE- The resignation of Wauwatosa Police Officer Joseph Mensah is a minor victory, but not cause for celebration for the families of three men he shot and killed.
“We welcome the news that he has resigned, however it’s the right thing done, essentially, the wrong way,” Attorney Kimberley Motley tells WTMJ. “It’s been a long time coming, it’s long overdue, but it doesn’t discount the fact that Chief Weber failed in supervising his officers properly.”
Motley is representing the families of Antonio Gonzales, Jay Anderson, and Alvin Cole, three men who were shot by Mensah in 2015, 2016, and 2020 respectively.
Mensah submitted his resignation from the Wauwatosa Police Department on Tuesday night. The City says it will go into effect on November 30th of this year.
Motley says the families will continue to pursue legal action against Mensah, but did not specify what avenues they plan to pursue.
