Saturday, October 10 is World Mental Health Day and it’s more important than ever to put an emphasis on mental health and take time to not ignore the thoughts and feelings we all may be experiencing during the pandemic.
U-W Madison clinical professor in the School of Human Ecology Dr. Christine Whelan says it’s time to remove the stigma on mental illness.
“The reality is that we are facing tough times. And it’s only natural, it’s normal, it’s human to feel feelings about the tough times. Now sometimes those feelings can really get into the way of our everyday functions. Anxiety spikes, depression creeps in and it’s hard to get out of bed. These are realities for so many people right now that it’s high time that we talk about it, we get rid of the stigma and that we actually invest in getting people the support that they need,” said Whelan.
