Tensions were high Thursday night during a second night of protests following the DA’s decision not to charge Wauwatosa Police Officer Joseph Mensah in the shooting death of 17-year-old Alvin Cole.
Wauwatosa Mayor Dennis McBride tells WTMJ that demonstrations spanned across ‘Tosa, Milwaukee, and West Allis.
Several arrests were made, including Cole’s mother Tracy.
“There is an unfounded allegation that Ms. Cole’s arm is broken. I don’t believe that to be the case,” adds McBride.
The Mayor expects demonstrations to continue over the next several days.
“Because it’s the weekend, I frankly expect that we’re going to see a lot of what we’ve already seen. I’m just asking everyone to keep a cool head. I’m going to ask the same of the police. I think they’ve shown restraint. It’s been difficult. It’s going to be a very difficult time for everybody. When you have time on your hands, people can protest all day long and into the night. I expect a lot more tension frankly. I just hope that laws aren’t broken and that people aren’t hurt.”
