The 17 year-old accused of shooting three protesters, killing two of them, during protests in Kenosha on Tuesday night will be allowed to stay in custody in Illinois, at least for the next several weeks.
Kyle Rittenhouse’s attorney Jennifer Snyder asked for her client’s extradition to Wisconsin to be held for 30 days. A judge quickly granted that request. The two sides will meet to discuss Rittenhouse’s extradition again on Friday, September 25th.
Rittenhouse, who’s been described as a vigilante, or member of a private militia, was in Kenosha for several hours Tuesday prior to the alleged shooting. He can be seen on video helping clean up debris Tuesday afternoon following the violent protests that took place Monday night. Video later captures the teen walking around the city holding an assault style rifle.
Rittenhouse is charged with several felonies, including first degree homicide, for allegedly shooting and killing 26 year old Anthony Huber and 36 year old Joseph Rosenbaum.
Protests have now continued for five consecutive nights in the wake of the shooting of Jacob Blake on Sunday evening by Kenosha Police.
