Various law enforcement associations in Wisconsin are asking Gov. Tony Evers and Lt. Gov. Mandella Barnes to stop making public statements about the shooting of Jacob Blake by a Kenosha police officer.
“The purpose of this letter is to respectfully ask that those in your administration discontinue and refrain from making statements and issuing press releases specific to the City of Kenosha Police involved shooting until the facts of the investigation are known,” the statement reads.
Signees of the document included members of the Badger State Sheriff’s Association, the Wisconsin Chiefs of Police Association, the Wisconsin Sheriff’s and Deputy Sheriff’s Association and the Wisconsin Police Executive Group.
In the letter, the organizations were concerned with potential damage caused by premature statements regarding an open investivation.
“Previous remarks and statements made by each of you are premature, judgmental, inflammatory and only add to the anger and divisiveness of an already dangerous situation.”
